In 2016 it was time for the Salt Lake Tribune to update it's digital experience to keep up with the times and the competition. The landscape of media has been continually changing over the years and with the progressive drop in subscriptions for printed newspapers the Tribune needed a way to improve revenue and increase digital engagement.
We explored a variety of concepts and landed on one that embodied the feel of paper in a digital format. Each section was branded with a specific color and letter icon that matched the current colors being used in print. The site was also designed with paid advertisements and banners in mind. We made use of the grid to create layouts that could easily be altered to add a variety of banners to each layout. Variable headline designs were created for each section allowing the Tribune to change them out whenever they wanted or needed to.

CUSTOM HEADLINE OPTIONS FOR SECTION & SUBSECTION
Multiple headline options were designed for the page of each news category. This allowed the editors the option to customize the news experience based on the news cycle for the day. Headlines options with and with out photography were also built-in to allow for flexibility and speed for quick news cycle updates.
